Consumers should make sure they do plenty of background research before making a decision on which energy supplier to use, an expert has insisted.
Justin Modray, spokesman for online resource Candid Money, feels it is vital for householders to find out as much information as possible prior to signing up to a utilities agreement.
Mr Modray explained that energy deals "vary widely" both in terms of between different companies and within suppliers themselves, meaning "it is always worth using comparison tools to regularly compare deals across the whole market to find the best for you".
The specialist went on to say that many of the best deals on the market are only available for a limited period of time so it is a good idea for people to shop around once a deal they have been locked into expires.
Recently, Ofgem simplified the rules regarding the eligibility of prepayment meter customers in debt to switch suppliers and Mr Modray noted this may help individuals save money on their energy bills.
