Parents and GPs need to be more aware of the dangers posed by an allergy to cows' milk among infants.
That is according to consultant paediatric allergist Dr Adam Fox, who believes that both mothers and fathers and professionals in the medical arena should have a better understanding of this intolerance, which is the most common allergy suffered by little ones in the UK.
A recent study conducted by Dr Fox and some colleagues found that some 75 per cent of parents across the country have never even heard of this condition, while 50 per cent admitted they would not be able to spot any of its symptoms.
The professional explained that the similarities between this allergies and other common ailments is one of the main reasons for this.
Nevertheless, he added that parents should familiarise themselves with the signs of the allergy, which include diarrhoea, acid reflux and colic.
