Kids are being encouraged to take more exercise with the launch of Walk to School Week.
Running between May 21st and 25th, it seeks to make strolling to school part of a child's daily routine.
This will in turn help make sure little ones stay fit and healthy as it forms part of the one hour of exercise they are recommended to take every day.
Over one million pupils took part in the initiative last year and in 2012 organisers hope over 1.6 million will sign up.
The theme for the event is Step Forward in Time and the health, financial, social and environmental benefits of walking will be advanced to schoolchildren in an effort to incentivise them to ditch their lifts to school.
"It encourages the younger generation to consider their impact on the environment by connecting with the world around them. It also allows them to gain valuable road safety skills and general awareness," the Northern Ireland Executive observed.
