Some 45 per cent of Britons are worried about the cost of household bills.
This is according to research by Zurich and the figure is higher than in any other European nation surveyed.
It was found that people in the UK are more concerned with their financial situation than family issues (36 per cent) and pressures at work (26 per cent).
Kay Martin, Chief Marketing Officer for Zurich's general insurance business in the UK, said: "With rising household bills, it's no surprise that a lot of people are being kept awake at night worrying about money."
Only 54 per cent of those questioned view life insurance as one of the top three cover products, which put it behind household insurance (83 per cent) and car insurance (76 per cent).
Ms Martin observed Britons should make sure they protect their families against the "financial consequences of ill health", as no one wants to leave their loved ones in a poor situation.
Bottom of the list of worries is the Eurozone financial crisis itself.
