There have been 84,000 debt advice client sessions organised in England and Wales in 2012.
These events are being run by the Money Advice Service, which has acted as the coordinator of the provision of debt advice since April 1st 2012.
According to a survey by YouGov, 58 per cent of people who have unmanageable debt took advice in an effort to bring their situation under control.
These individuals are almost twice as likely to bring their arrears under control within 12 months if they turn to the experts.
Caroline Siarkiewicz, debt advice manager at the organisation, said: "The record shows how dedicated debt advice professionals have helped people turn their lives round and get back on financial track."
She added there is a well-established network of guidance for people and so families should not be afraid to seek it out.
Individuals in the UK could look to set up a budget in order to make sure they have enough money to last them throughout the month.
