Parents should always be looking to save whatever money they can.
With household bills continuing to rise, people are finding their budgets stretched to breaking point, but it is important the issue of saving is not left on the back burner for too long.
The best way individuals can go about setting cash aside is to do so on pay day.
Kevin Mountford, head of banking at MoneySupermarket, observed in an "ideal world" consumers would have three months' salary available to them in case their circumstances change.
He said every penny counts and so an effort should always be made to save.
"Getting into the habit of putting money aside in a savings account on the day you get paid and budgeting to make the most of your remaining salary is vitally important," Mr Mountford stated.
The expert went on to note it is essential people make sure they are on the best deal possible, so their money is always working for them.
