Nine-in-ten parents plan to help their kids out financially when they go to university.
Some 1,000 mums and dads were questioned by HSBC and 15 per cent admitted they are going to pay the full amount of tuition fees, while 30 per cent will cover the majority of the expense.
This means many UK adults have to save with this in mind to make sure they are not left financially vulnerable whenever their kids do go off to uni.
Bruno Genovese, Head of UK Savings at HSBC, stated: "In many cases it is parents who end up footing the bill. However, most see this as an investment and an opportunity to help their children with a better financial future."
He added mothers and fathers may have to cut back on luxuries, or work additional hours, in order to fund their offspring's education.
Almost two-thirds (63 per cent) of parents are planning to save more to meet the additional costs, while 10 per cent will take on a second job.
